The USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51), lead ship of its class, is transported back in time to Pearl Harbor in January of 1942, a month after the Japanese attack. All 281 trained crew members and its full armament included:
1 × 29 cell, 1 × 61 cell Mk 41 vertical launch systems with 90 × RIM-156 SM-2, BGM-109 Tomahawk or RUM-139 VL-Asroc missiles
1 × Mark 45 5/54 in (127/54 mm)
2 × 25 mm chain gun
4 × .50 caliber (12.7 mm) guns
2 × 20 mm Phalanx CIWS
2 × Mk 32 triple torpedo tubes
How quickly could an advanced vessel such as the Aleigh Burke make its presence felt in the pacific? As hypothetical commander of all US forces in the Pacific, how would you use your new found toy ?

tomahawks would be useless. They need a satellite to work properly . other than that it is possible it could do some damage. A 1000 lbder would sink it like any other ship.

I feel like the Arleigh Burke would still have a leg up on most other vessels in regards to its ability to take punishment. It may not be able to soak up shells like a Yamato class, but its modern structural design and speed would certainly make it tough to sink. Even the Arleigh Burke's predecessor, the Charles F. Adams class guided missle cruiser USS Buchannon, was able to take 3 hellfire missles, 3 harpoons, and a 2400 lb. laser guided bomb without sinking at RIMPAC 2000. And with a phalanx CIWS on board, I wouldnt wanna be part of the squadron attempting to drop said 1000 lbders...
