Chinese naval domination of the Indian Ocean
People tend to forget the rising Chinese naval threat toward India and ultimate domination of the Indian Ocean. The Indian navy will always be but an insignificant blip in the shadows of the Chinese navy, can India really hope to achieve total naval supremacy over the Indian Ocean???? IMF forecasts ...

Re: What will the SDSR (SDR) mean for the Royal Navy?
German navy faces massive cuts. Confirmed $11+ billion to be slashed from German defense budget. German navy looks to be reduced to; 10,000 personnel 10 Frigates 5 corvettes 4-6 U212 SSKs Also it will likely lose a load of Minesweepers, its future planed amphibious ships scraped and a load of axilla...

Re: What will the SDSR (SDR) mean for the Royal Navy?
But the SDSR still means we have enough troops to fight an afghan style war and do another Falklands style war if needed. The troop numbers are there its the escort numbers available we don't have and until 2020 wont have the carrier to do so. Britain can still deploy and sustain up to 30,000 troops...

Re: What will the SDSR (SDR) mean for the Royal Navy?
Clinton was concerned leading up to the defense cuts, but is no longer concerned, she said Britain will still remain the United States most important and capable ally. A small armed force is one like Canada, Poland etc. Britain's will fall between Small and Medium sized. I would say a fleet of T-45s...

Re: What will the SDSR (SDR) mean for the Royal Navy?
Yes I should hope it is too. But I really think it is. Cameron said after 2015 the defense budget will rise in real terms every year. So it should be affordable especially as we will be out of afghan and the economy back on track. Britain is heading towards a more modern and efficient small - medium...

Re: What will the SDSR (SDR) mean for the Royal Navy?
Well its done now. Shame about the Cuts. However we all know what who was there influencing the cuts don't we! The god damn EU!!! Brussels knew the UK armed forces were too big, too powerful and too independent for the UK ever to agree to a common defense policy. Now with these cuts the UK has no ot...

PM David Cameron actualy appears to be level headed when it comes to defence, I wonder how him being MP will effect the SDSR.

Re: Russia to Buy French Helicopter Carrier
Great, so instead of Russia re-building its own ability to produce large, modern high-tech warships they will instead buy 3-4 from France (with two of those built in Russian ship yards). That means 30 years from now Russia will be in the exact same position and will need replacements. It’s a short-t...

Re: Russia's submarine fleet has 60 vessels in active service
Russia has cut its submarine force by around 25%, expect simular cuts in the following years. Most its submarine force sits docked up in ports all over Russia without fully manned crews and their systems removed and shutdown to re-fit other submarines. The sad reality of a once mightly Soviet Navy. ...

What will the SDSR (SDR) mean for the Royal Navy?
Various online news articles in the UK suggest maybe the Royal Marines will come under the British Army. The Royal Navy will loose the bulk of its amphibious forces and its surface fleet will shrink. Personnel will also be cut. But the Carriers look to be in a pretty safe position thanks to their ma...

Re: Top ten most powerful navies in the world
The French are also building new carriers (the same ones as the British except the French carriers are CATOBAR). It is a joint French/British design. The French have E2s, which provide them with tremendously better AWACS coverage than the British Searchwater. I thought Rafale was multi role and it'...

Re: Top ten most powerful navies in the world
AngloSaxonVangaurd , Really interesting, and practical, summary you made, indeed. Of ocurse it states as how the navies are now and not of what may be of them in the close future, which is something I have been looking forward: 1. The RN is to commision 2 new aircraft carriers that will be full car...

Re: Top ten most powerful navies in the world
Some people are obviously talking real rubbish here. The Royal Navy regularly fly’s Harrier GRs of its carriers and for the last few weeks/months has deployed HMS Ark Royal with UK and US Harriers embarked on one of the worlds largest training exercises which includes assault ships, destroyers and f...

Re: Royal Navy capable of another Falklands?
I would largely agree with the last post. It is contingent on whether the new government is really serious on defence matters or simply going through the motions on a political fudge basis. I am not convinced that only a relatively small force is required to protect or to retake the Falklands. Too ...
