Re: What is Putin up to?

Gentlemen, Re the explosions which fractured the gas pipelines, do you think it was (A) an accident, possibly caused by some WW2 ordinance or seismic movement, (B) the Russians, (why)? or (C) as was suggested in one of the UK papers, the Americans? Next Question! As the Ukrainians have apparently re...

Re: What is Putin up to?

Gentlemen It was reported on the news the other day that Ukraine wanted to join NATO, that would really put 'The cat among the pigeons'! As for the so called 'referendum on the regions joining Russia' any referendum that produces results of over 90% (in one case 99%) has got to be a sham, if Putin r...

Re: What is Putin up to?

Gentlemen, Thanks for all your input, Even if Putin did take the whole of Ukraine, holding on to it would be a very different (and costly) matter for Russia both in money and men, the fact that he is calling up reservists is, I think significant, and it makes one wonder if the much-vaunted Russian g...

Re: Doomed to fail

Hi HMSVF, Re part of your post which stated 'Once you have vessels with turbine engines everything looks a little slow. 23knots was good in the pre-dreadnought era but pedestrian post 1906', isn't it amazing that the RN went on to build the 'QE', 'R' and the 'Nelson' classes with the same or just a ...

Re: What is Putin up to?

Hi Byron, The situation at the moment the situation appears to be heading towards another 'Cold War' scenario which will either fracture or unite all the European countries. If Putin does eventually take Ukraine (which seems to be increasingly unlikely) I just hope he doesn't then decide to try and ...

Re: What is Putin up to?

Hi Byron, Many thanks for your detailed reply which certainly puts a different light on the whole situation, it's certainly true that some newspapers in the UK have a very 'Gung Ho' approach to anything they do not like or approve of. Whatever the truth is, there is no doubt that there are some pret...

Hi Byron,
He seems to like Russia quite a lot, as do his followers judging by their comments!

Re: What is Putin up to?

Gentlemen, Thank you for your posts. It's interesting to see the latest development of Putin ordering the call-up of 300,000 reservists, of course no-one knows how long they have been 'out of the service' and what sort of condition they are in, (if the reports are correct there are many of them tryi...

Re: What is Putin up to?

Do you really think the Russian army we have watched fleeing in disorder from the Ukranian offensive, abandoning weapons, would make to to Calais? Hi Steve, Probably not! I understand Putin has mentioned the use of nuclear weapons again and Biden replied, "Just don't". I wonder how the to...

Re: What is Putin up to?

Hi Byron, I think you are right on that point, there seems to be some dissention between certain EU countries as what to do, Germany and two or three other countries appear to be reluctant to supply arms to Ukraine in case they fall out with Russia altogether - I cannot see what their problem is bea...

Re: What is Putin up to?

Gentlemen, To reopen our debate that finished around the end of March. It would appear that the recent situation has changed quite dramatically with Ukraine retaking a lot of ground, so I was wondering what your opinions are on Putin's next move? As we already know he has made vailed threats about h...

Re: Poorly trained AA crews on Bismarckthe AA?

Gentlemen, I'm sure that I read somewhere that the AA crews om Bismarck had difficulty hitting the Swordfish because they had been trained by firing at faster moving drone targets and the aircraft were approaching them were travelling much at a slower speed and were dancing about in the strong winds...

Re: Hits on Scharnhorst in final battle

Gentlemen, Re my last post regarding the wreck of Scharnhorst being found a number of years ago, does anyone know if any further visits have been made to the site? Also, re her moving at 10 knots I wonder if she was moving under power at all or just drifting rapidly in the gale? With regard to the t...

German warships found

Gentlemen,
An article in the paper stated that due to the current drought in Germany a number of sunken German warships were found in a river (the Rhine?), has anyone got any details of what ships they were?
