AT guns vs. Artillery guns vs. Naval guns
Hello. Maybe someone can help me. How different are naval guns and land based guns? I understand, tank guns for example are high velocity guns good for penetration. Field artillery on the other hand is good for long range bombardment but not very useful versus tanks. 75mm AT guns are different than ...

Byron & Karl, here is a very good article about the economic factors and lend-lease. From Pipes website.

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome
I made a search myself and found that remark is from a post from year 2006 ! http://www.kbismarck.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5605#p5605 It is impossible mckenny read that before last night. In fact mckenny was refering to this other post from VeenenbergR on February 2, where he said: German soldiers ...

I think it was "VeenenbergR" the one who said that in another thread.Karl Heidenreich wrote:1. Have you found the quote, the one that according to you was provocative, in which I state that "the Germans fought to the death"?

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome
mkenny, you have showed us that you have very good knowledge of WWII and I of course realize you know Germany was outnumbered, everybody knows that. But when others have pointed out this German numerical inferiority you have always dissmissed that claim as "excuses by German fan boys" and ...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome
I do not see anyone disputing Germany was outnumbered. It keeps being brought up and sources quoted to prove it but it is never been denied. It has never been denied but it has been very difficult for you to admit it. Now that you agree that Germany was outnumbered, may I ask: Do you think being ou...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome
Karl, you must understand the concept of replacements. According to: http://www.feldgrau.com/stats.html There were 9,580,000+ men in Wehrmacht Service in 1942. There were 9,701,000+ men in Wehrmacht service in 1945. How do you explain that despite the terrible losses? Because men continued to be dra...

The total Wehmacht KIA 1939-1945: 2,230,324 The total Wehmacht MIA 1939-1945: 2,870,404 The bulk of the MIA must be presumed to be dead. Yes, I presumed them dead too. So, I added both KIA and MIA toghether, and substracted them to the big total of 17,893,200, and the result is 12,792,472 of max. p...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome
Much of the "math" done here is ignoring German replacements. You can have 1.5M men, lose 100,000 of them over a month of fighting, and still have 1.5M men. Oh yes, your are right. That the Germans had 1.5M men in the West on June 6, 1944, doesn't mean that's the total men that served in ...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome
It's actually an interesting question... How are counts determined? If I fought in France in 1940 and was wounded, recovered and fought at Moscow in 1941, was wounded again, recovered again and fought at Normandy, was wounded and captured... Do I count 3 times in the In the total casualties or just...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome
If the Western Allies captured 6,155,468 men then there are only 1,397,004 left for the Soviets. It just doesn't make any sense. It makes as much sense as assuming a wounded man (some several million) never returns to service no matter how he was wounded. The problem is the Official SHAEF f...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome
Hello all, alecsandros had a very good idea. So I did my homework here. From Mr. Pipes website on this link: http://www.feldgrau.com/stats.html We have: Total in Wehrmacht Service 1939-1945: 17,893,200 This is the total of men that served in the Wehrmacht at one time or another some time between 193...

Re: Bismarck Paint storage
Thank you all. 9.53 t of paint makes sense. That would occupy about 10 cubic meters maybe? (don't know the specific gravity of paint :( ) Do you know the paint storage of the Graf Spee? This ship changed colors all the time to disguise the enemy during her Atlantic sortie, so a lot of paint used the...

Re: Tiger Kills and Losses
Thanks for the info. What I was really hoping for was what kind of damage could be caused by a fighter attack with MG or cannon and how that would disable the tank. I can sure see how a fighter could make the lives of accompanying infantry unbearable and thereby cause an attack to fail, but I still...
