Re: Carrier Bush To Put Off Sea Trials

I will agree to that my friend. Although with those Los Angeleses it was almost necessary since there were so many of them, now that there are fewer ships being built it should go back to being fish names... Seawolf was good!

Re: Carrier Bush To Put Off Sea Trials

Yes, but those are for Amphibious Assault Ships... I believe there are ships of those names still in comission. Those names are of past battles, while the nuclear supercarriers are named after presidents of the past.

Re: Two KGV's vs. Yamato

I agree with jonsydney, the two would have a much better chance if they could somehow get on either side of Yamato, meaning Yamato would be splitting up her battery. A downside though is the accuracy, the splashes will be in the same position so one ship might get confused by another ship's splashes...

Re: Two KGV's vs. Yamato

Okay, that's a scenario that WOULD make the two KGv's destroy the Yamato's rear end... The captain of Big Y gets orders to flee to save the ship from damage and possable sinking... So with her running and KGV's hot on her tail... If the two of them catch up and start to fire... the twelve forward gu...

Re: Money's Worth

I agree... Okay, so back to the subject... Iowas are out of the picture since they cost way too much, despite a big economy of the US. Same with the Yamato's, although they might have been even more atrocious in this thread due to Japan's smaller economy... Bismarcks... Littorios... Strasbourgs... K...

Oh I forgot the ship name, that little escort carrier... they thought it was part of the big carrier force in the area, so they used AP rounds for piercing big carrier armor rather than the thin armor... Money's Worth

 I have noticed in all my experience on naval topics between the best battleship (usually between Iowa or Yamato), that one aspect is often overlooked. I am curious about which country was able to make the most powerful BB with the least money compared to their economic state. Example: Iowa i...

Re: Two KGV's vs. Yamato

( and  at the same time) Okay, now that we have that little devil out of the bag we know that according to that the 14in shells of KGV should be able to punch out Yamato's armor at ranges above 32,500 yards... Whoa! When you stop and think about it that's quite a few miles! Now, that mea...

Re: Two KGV's vs. Yamato

lwd, I agree. We need to remember that there isn't just a 2in difference between a 14in shell and a 16in one... There is a few hundred pounds difference!

 Yes, cracking is going to be a problem...

Re: Two KGV's vs. Yamato

I agree. The only thing I can see the 14in guns of the KGV class damaging that is important on the Yamato is the superstructure... bridge, fire directors, control centers, AA... perhaps an extremely lucky hit to the propeller or rudder? (He he, but not likely) On the flip side, Yamato's 18in guns vs...

Re: Two KGV's vs. Yamato

:stubborn: I'm sorry, my fault, I didn't phrase that correctly the first time. In this confrontation we see two KGV's coming in to challenge the Yamato. I meant if the 18inchers hit one of the two bow turrets, (one of them being an enormous quad) there is a fair chance that the magazines will blow t...

Re: Two KGV's vs. Yamato

Do we have an expert (no offense to anyone else) on those 18in shell ballistics and how much damage they would cause to the frontal armor of a KGV class? The front of the superstructure, the deck armor of the bow, turret faces, ect... Which admiral said: "In BB confrontations, if hits are taken...
