Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?
Unfortunately, to this day there is no extant example of a 10.5-cm Krupp Q.F Gun L/45 on M.P.L. C/1906, that I know of. But I am sure there will be more results in the future. Hi! So, this two, there is no certainty about them? http://www.geliboluyuanlamak.com/resimler/album_galeri/1214.jpg https:/...

Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?
Hi Holger. I think that the models are: 10.5cm L/40, hooped construction, with ring. One possibility is that the ring function is to attach the dumper, and that it has no barrel reinforcement function, and so this and the next would be the same. http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNGER_41-40_skc00_Goet...

Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?
I spoke with author Kent Crawford (https://www.academia.edu/75272309/Articles_and_Statements_Swansong_Blakely_Brooke_and_Vavasseur_Part_2) about this thread. He is very knowledgeable about cannons, specially of this perior. About the ring he said: "That ring is specific to the boundary between ...

Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?
Hi Holger! Ok, that´s definitive, the gun is 1905? Hi Marcello; - I would says yes. The Gun-Barrel was manufactured in 1905 . The Upper-Carriage is model year 1904 , but of course it could have been produced a year or two later until the new model 1906 came out. I'm no longer sure about the underca...

Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?
Hi Holger. What about the barrel proper? Do they have any markings? Hi Marcello, Regarding your question, here are sample from the back of the gun-breech. This is from the 10.5-cm S.K. L/40 on-board guns of the "SMS Königsberg", which were equipped with the same gun-type like the "SM...

Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?
Well, I disagree with the year progression. For me it would be: -L/40 with ring, hopped gun ------ Modell C/1897 -L/40 without ring, monoblock --- Model C/ 1904 -L/45 without ring, monoblock --- Model C/1906 This If the C/ year had any connection with the barrel version. But...I suspect that there ...

Re: "treasure island" navigation and sailing
Hi, I'm happy to join the forum and hope the learned members would help me with a question I have. In the "treasure island" book by Sevenson there is a phrase said by Long John, an old pirate, when talking about navigating the ship back to England from the treasure island somewhere in the...

The ring points to old guns, unequivocally. For a time I was thinking that it may be used to attach the dumpers, but not, it is even present in this old /35 that has no dumpers but a recoiling carriage. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/32/Krupp_240mm_L35_Fortress_Gun_2015_Military_M...

Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?
So far I can discern three variants: -L/40 with ring, hopped gun (the oldest model) -L/40 without ring, monoblock (tentative, after seeing all the photos I do not recall with certainty if I there is one) -L/45 without ring, monoblock (the more modern) Do you concur with this? Of the second variant ...

Krupp-Guns sales-catalog from 1891 with 695 original photos Behind this somewhat strangely long link, there is access via the Head Office of Library and Documentation from Istanbul University to an archive with scanned original photos of a Krupp sales catalog. http://katalog.istanbul.edu.tr/client/...
