at the relevant distance we are talking about even a 430 mm armor is not able to prevent a penetration.
Aditional we dont know for sure the relative quality of french and german armor

I read it somewhere that according Mr Campbell the british miss an impact of a shell so its possible that two shells hit bismarck and possibly the 2 shells disabled Anton and at times Berta

the main cabeling was below the armored deck
cabeling for firecontrol equipment was within the 22cm armored pipes

The german Seetakt radar sets with Feinpeileinrichtung were able to detect flying shells as well as splashes of 6 inch and above

but i dont know the range discrimination and the ability for identifying shoot errors for line of fire

found a british document on diving shells There is also a interesting statment about the armor of Tirpitz but its also possible to be fictional. Seems to me, even they know the real thicknesses of whether deck and armored deck, they assume a thickness of horizontal protection equivalent to 6 inches ...

according Krupp datasheets the SK 38 C 34e had a range of 35.6 km at 30deg elevation propellant 210 kg RPC-32 (16mm/7mm tube) lifetime of barrel 242 rounds according Baron v.Müllenheim-Rechberg the SK 38 used in the bismarck had a range of 36.2 km there were also some differences to the (same?) gun ...

The Bismarck ... has... well trained crews. This is questionable The Bismarck heavy artillery testings were not completed only few single shoots were performed, no long range shootings, no battery shootings in near combat stuations because of lack of time and technical difficulties. My own calculations indicate about 405mm at 22,000 yards (20.1km). The 16"/50 at 22,000 yards is listed at 405mm. Using the same exact model for both we get about 395mm for the 15" and 405mm for the 16"/50. No significant difference. It's 360mm at 20km for the 16"/45. you have n...
