I really like this idea. The F-22 is a supreme aircraft! I can see some of the downsides however. It is LARGE. The notion of folding wings occurred to me... but I didnt know how that would affect the systems built into them.jackbrown wrote:...so how's about a naval version of the F-22?

Re: Pressurised water jackets in magazine protection
Yeah! Like putting water into a bottle, putting the cap on, and squeezing! The moment you take the top off all of that water is going to fly out!

Re: Nuclear powered Battleship?
Way too overkill... but for a bombardment role it would be insane! The battleship could use the secondaries (3in) as anti ship guns... because lwd's point is completely true. A 16in railgun would be almost overkill for even a bombardment role!

Re: Nuclear powered Battleship?
So... If this was to be thought out and designed... assumingly the architects would want the same velocities... because the 3in is going to have the faster reload obviously. The more I think about it the more it comes to me that this system would require a MASSIVE AMOUNT OF POWER! The 3in guns would...

Re: What is needed to replace the Battleship?
Fair enough. Is there currently a defensive armor system lightweight enough to be placed on small warships... yet robust enough to absorb any damage of current Naval Artillery, Missiles, and upcoming weapons? Kevlar comes to mind... lots and lots of Kevlar.

Re: What is needed to replace the Battleship?
Well... the fact of the matter is it was hard for even a battleship of the time to take a heavy hit like that without taking pause or damage of some kind. My point merely hints that if a ship was in a combat situation with a large caliber warship... unless it had matching penetration and damage powe...

Re: What is needed to replace the Battleship?
Yes but how many currently operational ships have the firepower to compete with a battleship at firing range?

Re: JSF Delayed Again: Pushed Back 13 Months
A very good comparison! I think that F-22s are good for homeland defence... perhaps as that impenetrable wall that always has your back... but the F-35 in the long run is definitely the more efficient for the money. While the F-22 is superior in every way to just about anything at high altitude, the...

Re: What is needed to replace the Battleship?
The railgun? The 8in gun? Anything larger than a 5" standard naval artillery is near extinct! I do suppport your point though, again bringing economical power into the equation. That was thw whole point of the OHP class!

Re: What is needed to replace the Battleship?
Can submarines fight terrorists or pirates? They are amazing warships, but the one thing I believe they lack in modern times is a form of surface weaponry. I wish they could cram some form of small or medium caliber weaponry. A computerized aiming system with a bofors perhaps? The one problem engine...

Thank you! I am currently working on a true 3D model of this warship. I am currently having trouble with making the forward bow flare correctly... I might have to make the bow in many seperate pieces.
