Re: Hawaii's Pearl Harbor To Become Hub For New Nuclear Subs

Up until now what was the major hub for nuclear submarines?
What is so new about Pearl Harbor? There was a submarine base there since the days of WWII.

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

And yeah, how can you question capturing Midway if the Japs win carrier battle? Those are two small islands which would be batterred to hell by the Japanese BBs and airplanes for two days, until the invasion forces are ready to land. There were no underground bunkers like Iwo Jima nor was the islan...

Weight of Propellers

Just wondering. What is the weight of the propellers for these ships? Yamato, Iowa, Bismarck, Richelieu, KGV.
Anybody knows?

I love this one

Re: The ten most powerful navies in the world

I don't know what will happen in the near future but today the Chinese don't deserve the third place. The navies of Japan and South Korea together with US technological assistance are better than the Chinese.

Re: Brazil buys 50 helicopters, 5 submarines from France

Now that you mention the French the exocets proved very reliable for the Argentines in falklands war. All countries want sophisticated weapons the problem is how adquire them and at what price. Not many Latin American countries can afford to buy modern weapons and other times the superpowers are not...

Thanks Bgile.
Tiornu, those shells were of the same type used by Nagato class battleships? 16-inch shells?

Re: The ten most powerful navies in the world

We could drop the Russian and Japanese navies a couple of slots but I still consider them superior to the Chinese. The French and British take second and third place very close together until the Queen Elizabeth carriers are commissioned. After these navies I would place all the rest. I found this i...

Top ten most powerful navies in the world

The most powerful navies in the world. You may disagree but this is my top 10. 1. US Navy. The most powerful without a doubt. 2. Russian Navy. Still has a lot of big ships and nuclear subs. 3. Japanese Navy. No aircraft carriers but many modern destroyers with AEGIS system and US technology. 4. Fren...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

I think that a Japanese invasion in depth of Russa from the East would be a big mistake. Just look at a map and see the incredible distances. The distance from Manchuria to the Urals is three times the distance from Berlin to Moscow, and the Japanese army is not a modern army like the German or Russ...

Artillery shells dropped by planes

Some Japanese bombers attacked Pearl Harbor with modified 14 inch armor piercing shells. One was responsible for destroying the Arizona but the others seem to have missed or caused little effect. What are the pros and cons (if any) of using a shell vs. a 550 lb bomb? If the shell can penetrate more ...

Re: Carrier Bush To Put Off Sea Trials

This will be the 10th and final Nimitz-class carrier. Do you think Bush really deserves a carrier named after him? Maybe we have a Clinton or Obama in the mid 21th century. The new Ford-class supercarriers will be great. It isn't being named after the currend President Bush. Yes I know. I was talki...
