Exactly, Gary. You leave port, during a war. Rule number 1 should be put up an air patrol and set out your lookouts. I don't think he was looking out for his ship at all. Hence, my reasoning that he should have been brought up on charges. My father was in the US Navy, and he was held responsible for...

On the second site, she is referred to as a Battleship. That would be my vote, honestly.

http://www.kbismarck.com/scharnhorst.html -- I think that, IMO, proves her to be a Battleship. :D

The Hunt for Red October Rocked. Sink the Bismarck is just a classic, mistakes aside. Pearl Harbor.... *pukes* has more mistakes in it than any, so-called, movie should be allowed to have. That stated, it's not a bad movie to watch sometimes. I do find it funny, I always laugh every time to mothball...

Well, you can call that fuse whatever you want. They weren't entirely accurate, to begin with. As referenced by the fact that one was a dud.

That stated, if it had exploded before impacting the ship, it would have done more damage that it did to the ship.

Hmm...Let's exmine those retarded moves: 1) No air patrol??? Who does that? 2) Missing boilers. Ok, so I'm going to see, in hostile waters. I know!!! I'll take down a boiler or two, that should help things. 15 minutes makes sense, if you aren't paying attention. Hughes should have been court...

No, the PoW was not that badly damaged. However, there were technical problems galore on PoW. She was missing a few barrells, due to technical issues. Ouch....That could be a game stopper.

Karl, your new if is a simple matter.

Considering, PoWs turrets/gun problems I'll take the Bismarck any day.
You add in a few more BBs, and I may think twice. If the Fleet had sortied and come running, so to speak....That might change things, but as of now, I'll take Bismarck. :)

Yeah, I have read that too, Marcelo. I was speaking of the wing turrets. The configuration seems like it would make a lot of noise coming from both sides of the ship. And I must retract my statement about the US 12s. I can't find the book I'm looking for. I'll keep searching for it, but as of now, I...

Very true, iank. There is nothing clear cut about this one, and hind sight being what it is, still lends itself to multiple lines of thoughts and ideas. I think that's what makes this site so much fun for me. All these ideas flying around. :) Will we ever know the truth about what went on in their h...

Well I might be a little biased, and I do wonder about offending anyone on here who, after all, do not choose where they are born. But I do find it hard to understand the animosity that seemed to come from De Gaulle towards Britain (I don't know if this was also directed at the USA). Since then the...

That is very true.

I wonder what the outcome would have been had the Bismarck pursued the POW. I'm not sure that it would have effected the final outcome of WWII, but it might have made it more interesting, if that's possible.

That's very true. The broadside on the Dreadnought was only 8 barrells. Granted the forward shot would 6, the aft as much as 8, depending on the angle. But, that arrangement caused some strange issues. I can only imagine that noise level, based upon the placement of the turrets in relation to the th...
