Hi Marty,

Actually, the Nelson Class mounted the 16"/45 (40.6 cm) Mark I with a shell weight of 2,048 lbs. (929 kg). GKdos100 has the correct weight (930 kg). It is the muzzle velocity what was for some reason overestimated.

Bill is correct. GKdos100 does not specify the type of British shells used. It seems that the penetration curves of the foreign guns are based on what the Germans thought about those shells at that time. Nelson's 930-kg AP shells for example are given a muzzle velocity of 840 mps when actually this ...

I can't for the life of me see how Kdos 100 ( the commonly circulated versions of which were perloined from my original copy by the way, without my knowledge or permission ) could possibly have to say about any of the Baden tests. Hello Bill, Things like this make me feel somehow embarrassed, and I...

Hi Marty, There is nothing at all in the Baden Report about the exact type of 15-inch APC used during the trials other than the fuze utilized and the filling. That should give us a clue... … as to why didn't that 15" APC round penetrate Seydlitz's relatively thin 10-inch turret face, I have no ...

Hello again, I am attaching the 15" Mk I penetration curves from " Awa A IA 100/40 g.Kdos Unterlagen mad Richtlinien zur Beslimmung der Hauptkampfentfernung und der Geschosswahl ". See links: http://www.kbismarck.org/photos/69.jpg http://www.kbismarck.org/photos/70.jpg According to th...

Hello Marty, It is indeed an interesting report. The Baden trials demonstrate that a 15-inch Mk-I APC would penetrate 350mm of WWI KC armor when hit at less than 20 degrees from 15,500 yards (1,550 fps). The penetration figures you gave from navweaps.com are most likely approximate with a considerab...

Hi Bob, Well, I think it all depends of what we understand for facts, right? Antonio's account is mostly in accordance with official records and first hand accounts, while your version of the battle is not. Perhaps you are not ignoring facts, but you are interpreting things, if not wrong, certainly ...

1921 firing trials against Baden

Hello, The following data is from a report part of ADM 186/251. The original report is a bit extensive, so I am only including a brief summary and the results of the four rounds that were fired against 13 ¾ in. [350mm] thick WWI German KC plates: ------------------------------------------ H.M.S. “EX...

U.S. Navy Torpedo Development

I found a graphic today in my files about the U.S. Navy torpedo development that may be of interest to some of you. It covers all the way from the XIX century to the present day. Click on the image below to enlarge a very high resolution scan (4593 x 3156 pixels). The file is 5 MB large and it can t...

There is one thing that it seems to me you guys are forgetting. The Bismarck has already been hit, and her top speed reduced to 28 knots (according to KTB), in the time frame picture of the film you are analysing.

Hi Jose, ... You can ignore the facts, but that will not serve the high goal of seeking the truth in the matter. Antonio's battle reconstruction is not perfect of that I am sure, but honestly Bob when you go and say that the only evidence supporting his theory are the six photographs shown in their...

Correct!! It is the Dédalo (ex-USS Cabot).

I took the picture myself in Palma de Mallorca back in 1989 shortly before the ship was decommissioned from the Spanish Navy.
