Hello,
has anybody info regarding how Tirpitz "Kartoffelraum" (here in a photo from autumn 1942) was internally built and used ?
It was added to the ship in summer 1941 between funnel and main tower. I could not find any explanation about its access(es), operation and availability for crew.

I realize German words often describe what the item is, but I don't speak much German and don't know what that thing is at all.

Kartoffelkiste = potato box
from the name space to store potatos to eat

Hello Thorsten/Steve,
thanks, I thought that it was used to store potatoes.
What I am interested in, is its internal structure (grills?) and the way it was accessed (assuming very few accessed it from funnel platform and without potatoes, I see 2 catwalks, one from Unteres and one from Oberes Mastdeck level + 2 hatches on its roof) and its availability for crew.
From where were potatoes 'loaded' into ?
From where potatoes were taken out ?
Was the whole crew free to take potatoes or just kitchen workers ?
Why was such a large structure (square plan of 4+ meters, 3 to 5 meters high) needed ?
