the first time of succesful use for firecontrol purposes at night was in summer 1939 on board Graf Spee

up until end of 1942 the capabilities were evenly matched. then the allies succeed in shorter wavelenghts. building up a considerable advantage due to much more human and financial ressources addicted to research and construction of such devices.
