Howdy Folks,
My name is Joshua. I am the creator of a popular mod, HTroop, for a first person shooter game, called Battlefield 1942. I have been creating/editing/perfecting the mod for the last 18 years. I am a bit of a perfectionist, and I am currently working on explosion effects for the U.S.S. Enterprise Aircraft Carrier. I was wondering if any of you could assist me regarding where on the carrier, or what sections of the carrier, would be most likely to explode if hit by either torpedoes or aircraft bombs. I'm not sure if any of you are WWII gamers, but if any of you understand scripting, Bf1942's engine is a bit limited. I cannot specify a random position upon the carrier, where flames and smoke will emit from, but I can make the flames' and smoke's timing, random, so that these effects do not appear in the same place, at the same time, every time the vehicle is destroyed/sinking. Could anyone please help me with this project (preferably showing me by images and arrows, or circled sections of the vessel)? I would of course be willing to add you to the credits of the mod, as a WWII Vehicle Consultant if you wish.
Thank You,
Joshua

Hi.
You should start looking for a plan of the ship, the closer you will find are the CV-5 – USS Yorktown – Booklet of General Plans in https://www.hnsa.org/manuals-documents/ ... ns-online/. In them you can look for the danger areas, AV gas tanks, aerial bomb and torpedo magazines, etc...Then you need to assess the possibility of an aerial bomb penetrating to those areas, taking into account bomb weight, fall velocity and angle, deck resistance to damage, etc...That would be a start!
Then you can compare your findings to actual damage as reported in https://www.history.navy.mil/research/l ... -1942.html.

The flight deck or the hangar full of fuelled and armed aircraft is a very vulnerable spot.

AND https://www.history.navy.mil/our-collec ... raphy.html for images. Not all the ships have photo damage, but some have really serious pix.marcelo_malara wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 4:33 pm Hi.

Forget which carriers, if any, are included in this collection. (And I did the damn things.)
https://www.history.navy.mil/research/l ... ports.html
Checked, there are a few.

Yes, I forgot that. The state of planes both on deck and in hangar has to be assessed,Francis Marliere wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 9:53 am The flight deck or the hangar full of fuelled and armed aircraft is a very vulnerable spot.
