Hi all, questions on the Early WW2 British ASDIC, and I'm using information from Wiki, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_B ... ic_systems and a very nice web site dealing with their use in the Royal Canadian Navy, see http://jproc.ca/sari/asd_et1.html
I was looking at what ASDIC was being installed in 1941, and am a bit surprised that ASDIC (Sonar) didn't seem to move on as quickly as Radar, judging by the fact that sets like the Type 124 introduced in 1934, and the Types 127 and 128 coming into service in 1937 were being used. I know this isn't a simple subject, the variations caused by having to consider the size of installation, given the various sizes of craft they were being fitted to, from a small 60 ton Fairmile, to a 10,000 ton cruiser add complexity to start with. Obviously, generating greater power would improve performance, but become increasingly heavier and bulkier.
Was there various marks of, say for instance, the Type 124, as small modifications improved performance or reduced weight?
Is there better information on line that someone can point me to, or is anybody able to enlighten me a little please
