the Tallboy bomb

Post by paul.mercer »

Gentlemen,
I wasn't sure where to put this question.
It is said that the 'Tallboy' bombs dropped on Tirpitz went through the sound barrier on their way down. if that is the case, would they have made the same sort of 'bang' as an aircraft when it breaks the sound barrier. Also, would the larger 'Grand Slam' achieved the same sort of speed on its way down?

The sonic boom. Yes, every object moving at the speed of sound produces it. But you have to be behind the passing object to feel it. Sailors on board for sure did not.
