CVA-01

Post by tameraire01 »

If we did build her would we have a decent sized carrier fleet with CVA-01 along with CVF? If so what Aircraft would we put on them F4 phantoms then F/a 18 super hornets. Then turn the F4,s into electronic war fair platforms?
Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas. Joseph Stalin

Both CAV-01 were to be built in the 1970s and would have been due for replacement ~4 decades later which is about now. So each CVF would have replaced a CVA-01.

Such a large deck carrier battle groups were "do able" and would have been valuable for NATO, but would have required a drastic cut in ASW escort. Since those were pretty useless warships anyway- it would not have been much of a loss. On the other hand- they did fill a 'empire' role so their loss would been political and maybe not tolerated.
