Iowas Class Battleship Plans

Post by bigjimslade »

Through FOIA requests I have discovered that that original plans for BB-34–BB-66 were sent to the Naval Historical Warehouse in Memphis TN and were likely tossed into the garbage when that facility was closed.

A full set of Iowa-class plans (300 boxes) was sent to the Philadelphia Navy yard. That set, along with all the Iowa-class spare parts, appears to have been placed on the U.S.S. Charleston.

The U.S.S. Charleston is waiting for scrapping. If these materials are not removed soon, they will be destroyed.

Have you reported this to the Naval History and Heritage Command?
