aurora, is this list WW2 (per the thread) or a general list of war films?

If its the latter as the mention of Gettysburg suggests I'm not sure that there aren't a lot of films about other wars better than Gettysburg. The film Lawrence of Arabia starring Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif immediately springs to my mind as a masterpiece of an epic, backed by an atmospheric and haunting theme tune, and makes no false illusions about the scenario or the main character.

I can almost hear you saying "Gotcha"-of course it is about WW2 movies RF- but as I saw it on others lists -I unwittingly inserted it in mine-and yes Lawrence of Arabia was a great movie and ought to have been included in my list- as Gettysburg-which I did like -was American Civil War. Must do better!!!!
