Hi new here and I wanted to ask here if after seeing The Day After Tomorrow, doe anyone here think the people in the New York Public Library could have sailed the ship that drifted towards the library out of New York and south to safer waters had they been able to board it? Pictures of the ship have been attached. Thanks!

Well, sailing a ship, specially an engined one, is not like driving a car, you have to know how to start her engines in the first place!

Re: The Day After Tomorrow ship
I manned the main spaces in carriers and smaller warships. They weren't simple. That tanker probably has diesel-electric drives, again not simple. IF the ship drifted out into the open ocean it might have made it to more clement climes. But the Gulf Stream would have driven it over to northern Europe, or maybe down the European Atlantic coast. Still not a great bit of fun.
Now, a few clever chaps might have been able to get the emergency generators started, which was would have provided light and heat. That would have given them time to puzzle out the engines and get her headed south, if they were lucky.
