Admiral Hipper repairs in 1941

Post by Francis Marliere »

Gentlemen,

the German cruiser Admiral Hipper was put in dock for repair after a cruise in the Atlantic in 1941. Do you know when the work was finished and the ship operationnal ?

Thanks for any help,

If I remember correctly, Hipper reached Kiel in March 1941 and entered the Deutsche Werke for an extensive overhaul which lasted seven months. She was available for limited operations but was taken in hand again for a major overhaul of her turbines in January. This lasted until March 1942, at which point the cruiser was once more fully operational.

Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood and Earth's foundations stay;
What God abandoned these defended;
And saved the sum of things for pay.
