Attaining flag officer rank in the RN during WW2

Hi all, with the coming of World War Two, and all the different theatres they operated in, there must have been a considerable rise in the number of officers promoted to the flag officer ranks. No doubt most would have been promoted after the Admiralty had given serious thought to who they wanted to promote, but were some officers promoted in part because they were in the right place at the right time, i.e. in the Mediterranean or Far East theatres
